James Edmund Burke, Jr. passed away Nov. 23, 2009. A resident of Covington since 1972, he was born in Birmingham, Ala., March 20, 1921 to the late James E., Sr. and Hattie Isabel Burke. Survivors include his beloved wife of 38 years, Georgyee Johnson Burke; two daughters, Elizabeth B. Chifani and Anne B. Watson; one son, James E. Burke, III; two stepsons, Harold K. and J. Stuart Watson; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Brookfield Burke and his sister,Catherine B. Mudge. Jim was a veteran of World War II having served the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific theatre and was a dedicated parishioner at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington.
